Experience 17th-century Edinburgh by touring The Real Mary King's Close. This collection of underground alleyways features buildings dating back to period of the Plague, and gives you a glimpse of Edinburgh life hundreds of years ago. Take a tour with a guide in period dress who will recount the close's history, share its associated ghost stories and myths, and bring you into a handful of homes left in their original condition. Named for Mary King, a famous local fabric trader and seamstress in the 1630s, the area was open to the sky before the city built over it and put it beneath street level. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because you'll be walking on cobblestone streets. We really enjoyed this tour! Walking into underground Edinburgh to get a feel for life hundreds of years ago. It’s some stairs up and down and some slanted floors, but not strenuous. Our guide...

Amazing visit here! Fascinating trip with lots of great information. Our guide was brilliant. She really had all our family listening to every word. Thank you so much Becca. You really brought the experience to life. Would definitely recommend coming here for a visit!

This attraction is a great way to spend an hour of your afternoon being guided through one of Edinburgh's historic sights. We were cotemplating between this and the Dungeons, but I'm glad we chose this instead. Our tour guide, Al, was really energetic and informative which brought a great atmosphere to the tour. Our group was around 15 people which meant we could all hear and see Al and all that they were saying. I do think it would be a nice touch to meet different people/characters along the way instead of just a prop of them. This would bring the tour to life a bit more and possibly be a bit more engaging with the group. Overall, I was super happy we made the decision to do this tour, and I genuinely found it really interesting and eye opening. Would highly recommend!
