Perth Museum and Art Gallery is the main museum and exhibition space in the city of Perth, Scotland. It is located in the Marshall Monument, named in memory of Thomas Hay Marshall, a former provost of Perth.
The museum's location was formerly the site of a late 12th-century motte and bailey castle, built in 1160 to protect the Tay crossing. A great flood in 1209 washed the Castle away. The King, William I, was staying in it at the time and had to escape with his wife and entourage by boat to Scone.

  • Excellent story-telling for this part of Scotland. The complicated geology of Perthshire and Kinross is explained well. Great selection of childrens' pocket-money ideas in the gift shop. Before...

  • Can't really complain given that it's free, but not a huge amount to see inside and not much of a visitor journey through the museum. Worth a look if you're nearby though.

  • small but worth visit place with very kind staffs
  • This is a great visit. We were met on entry by a friendly and helpful member of the museum team and given a useful briefing. The museum is very well curated with a collection that will appeal to all interests and ages. The permanent collection has some remarkably good pieces. The special exhibition when we visited covered the many aspects of SIN and was well presented and well thought-out. The museum also has a small gift shop focusing more on quality than quantity (hand-crafted soaps, artisanal chocolate etc) and toilets. I would happily visit again. Thank you Perth Museum
