Solstice Canyon is a park within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Malibu, California. Located off Corral Canyon Road from Pacific Coast Highway, the canyon runs north-to-south about a mile east of Point Dume. The park opened on June 20, 1988 and was created out of land owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Before becoming a park, the land was known as Roberts Ranch and, from 1961 to 1973, hosted a space research facility.
In 2003, a Chumash grave site was discovered within the park.

  • Nice easy hike to ruins of large house and small water fall via Solstice Canyon trail. Little bit harder hike back through Rising Sun trail. Views from trail back are very rewarding.

  • 30 minutes each way if you take the paved road from the parking lot, but for better views start by going up the steps to your right at the beginning of the paved road. Somewhat overgrown but manageable. This trail starts out very sunny but after about 20 minutes you are in a shady forest. Very cool fallen tree across the creek on this section. The end of the trail at the waterfall is very narrow and somewhat anticlimactic. You can get close to the waterfall but there are warnings to not cross the barriers or get into the water or you face a $5,000 fine or 6 months in jail. Nice trail, good views, cool old ruins of the homes up there, but if you are looking for a waterfall to get close to or wade in the water, look elsewhere.
  • Easy hike, clean, so far no obvious tagging (thank you for keeping nature, natural). Different trails from easy to moderate. Take your pick! The ruins were better than expected actually, and the waterfall, although very little, os pretty to see.
